Ok, I know I'm a little late on this one, but I just got hold of a copy of
Some Kind of Monster, the fly-on-the-wall account of
Metallica's attempt to record an album whilst trying not to kill each other, attending rehab, etc. To ease their journey across this emotional minefield they have a band/personal-therapist onboard, at the princely sum of $40,000 per month. Bargain!.
I'm only just over halfway into it, but one of my favourite (blink-and-you'll-miss-it) parts is where the band are sitting in the studio, and are in the process of writing down their innermost feelings, as you do. The camera zooms in on a distracted-looking Lars Ulricht (who at this point in the movie looks like he's heading into nervous breakdown territory) as he commits his emotions to paper. The pic above is what we see. Lars clearly is not yet 'In the Zone'.
Some Kind of Monster along with
This is Spinal Tap, is recommended viewing for anyone who has ever been in a band, big or small, or is even
thinking about joining or forming one.
