August is the new October

Yeah, I know...don't mention the weather, but come on people, it hasn't stopped raining around here since this time last night. Witness the driving conditions out the road to Chez Sonique earlier this evening. As far as the Summer goes, I want my money back.

Poor ol' SBBQ2 is sitting in a corner of the kitchen here next to a couple of fold-up ASDA chairs, one of those really tiny bottles of Stella Artois and an un-opened box of firelighters. And he was doing so well too.

Anyhoo, some news for the Hip Hop Massive Worldwide.
The good people at GW Tomorrow's World have sent me an MP3 of Devastatin' Dave's Zip Zap Rap (see previous post). I've only had time to FFWD through it's full 6 minutes or so, but it's evidently a forcefully delivered 'Say No to Drugs' excursion from back in the day. (Whatever happened to the Anti-Drugs Song? I personally haven't heard of one since Grange Hill Comprehensive implored the nation's youth to Just Say No).

As I'm not too sure at this point how to upload an MP3 to the Sonic Blog, (and I'm a little too relaxed to be bothered learning how at present) I can't play you said file.
In any case, I'm uncertain whether or not Devastatin' would approve of this move... and he's not at home right now so I can't check. Suffice it to say, (and I don't think he'd mind me putting it like this), the track sounds like the pic.... looks, if you know what I mean. You'll have to take my word for this...at least for the time being.

Interestingly, I've just Googled his name and am surprised to find a healthy body of info out there concerning the man and his work. Plus a good few folks seem to be ripping his name off - in Myspace particularly, there's an awful lot of Turntable Slavery at large. I gotta say it kids, I agree - that name is pure gold...and I wish I'd thought of it. Mind you, my name isn't Dave, so a certain amount of re-invention, maybe too much, would be in order. Come to think of it, my name isn't Sonic Avenger either, but let's not digress.

I've also seen at least one reference to D-D the Cyberslave out there. Maybe this is/was an attempt to move into the Sleazy Gutter Electro department of Rap's Rich Tapestry, I dunno, but it certainly adds to the enigma.

Whatever the case, I'm hoping to bump into the man himself over the weekend and clear up one or two nagging questions I have. Like, how can someone who has clearly made some proper records (with full-colour sleeves) in proper studios an' such, not be at least be moderately rich?
This and other mysteries I hope to have answers to in the very near future.

The Days of Turntable Slavery

Greetings Blog-Children.
Apologies once more for being incommunicado, as they say in Preston.
One thing I've recently learned, Blog-wise, is that I'm supposed to be able to create posts by email, but this function doesn't seem to be working in Sonic Blog. Maybe one of you techie-types out there could advise me on this.

Anyhoo, lots of activity around Chez Sonique of late, the upshot of which is a new Sonic -Neighbour for yours truly. A cup of tea was all it took for a thumb-nail sketch of his past to be revealed unto me....and an interesting one it is to be sure.
A Live for the Moment kinda guy with a musical CV in the troubled world of Hip Hop, his street-name back in the day was Devastatin' Dave, the Turntable Slave, no less.
Here's a shot of him in his turntable slavery days of the mid to late 80's.

He said it'd be fine to mention him in Sonic Blog, but would like his real name and location to remain a secret. Fair do's Dave said I.

Apparently, Dave had a been an off-the-peg pop-kid in his teens, until he experienced an epiphany of sorts whilst watching Miker-G & DJ Sven (Sweden's premier Old Skool rap pioneers) performing Holiday Rap on the Little & Large Seaside Roadshow in '86.

One thing led to another, and Devastating David, soon to become Devastatin' Dave, was born. Details of his performing career remain sketchy at the time of writing this, (he only moved in 2 weekends ago), but more details as and when I can get 'em.
Whatever the case, it's nice to have a neighbour with a musical pedigree for once, and from the Golden Era of Hip Hop no less. I shamefully must confess total ignorance of Devastatin's back-cat myself, but if anyone out there has any Devastatin' memories of his live shows etc., that you'd care to share, please feel free. I'm sure he'd be well pleased.
I won't say what line of work he's in these days, but it involves car-exhausts more often than it does turntables.

On a different topic, many of you have asked how Sonic BBQ2 (see previous post) is doing. The answer would have to be, very well indeed, thankyou. Very much one of the family. There is simply no finer way to cook tuna, take my word for it.
Expect cookery tips.
